Welcome to this month’s Divine Feminine Spotlight.

The intention of The Divine Feminine Spotlight is to share transformational stories of women who have learned to walk in beauty, with the strength, courage, and pleasure of claiming their feminine sovereignty.

Mary E. Coen Today it’s my pleasure to introduce you to Mary Coen.

Mary is a full-time author, coach and stress management lecturer, while also running a website called Goddess MECA. Interactive with her book, Love & The Goddess, it’s a celebration of the goddess in all women with separate sections on mythology, lifestyle, cookery and blogs.

“I embody being a sovereign Goddess by listening to the still small voice within that urges me to follow my heart. I do not bow down to societal conventions and have proven that I am willing to risk all in order to take my unique place in the world.” -Mary Coen

Here is a short summary of Mary’s interview. Please give a listen to experience the full energetic connection of our transformational conversation. You are going to love Mary’s fabulous energy.

Share a personal transformation you experienced in the last 12 months that altered your life.

Transformation is such a beautiful word. I always thought of it in terms of the caterpillar emerging from the chrysalis, as the beautiful butterfly spreading her wings. Indeed once any of us set foot on the spiritual path, a metamorphosis is expected but it seldom occurs immediately. In a manner similar to the ancient alchemists who turned the base metal of lead into gold, the soul must go through stages in order to be purified. And some of these stages require being put through the fire in order to be forever altered.

In the past year, I began to understand this as it has been a period of uncertainty, like no other I have ever faced before in this lifetime. I found out I was tied into a massive debt, whereas I had previously been assured in writing, that I would be financially independent for life following my divorce.

Being the type of person who could not bear owing a dollar, this has been my worst nightmare.

The gift in this lesson comes in the form of answering my own questions;

(1) Can I trust in a higher power that all will be well, indeed that all is well?

(2) Can I still accept and love myself despite this situation?

(3) Can I make peace with uncertainty in my life?

(4) Can I be content with less materially than I have ever previously had in life.

(5) Can I forgive this situation and live in the Now?

To be able to answer YES to all these questions is evidence that I have certainly undergone a major transformation. I am still adjusting and have rediscovered the power of prayer. And when I find my new set of wings, I will feel I have certainly deserved them.

How do you relate to your body, sexuality and power?

In many ways, I am happier with my body than when I was younger as I no longer expect myself to conform to model proportions. I am now thankful that my body supports my health and I care for it by eating nutritious food and doing regular exercise.

Over the past couple of years I’ve come to value the wisdom of the body; to tune into my body through practicing mindfulness. I value gut instinct and remind myself to breathe deeply; act from the heart rather than react from the mind.

I view my sexuality as being part of my creative power as a woman. I am tactile and sensual and very much an advocate of tantra, yet I am presently celibate by choice. I do not see a contradiction in this and still regard myself as a sexual being in how I relate to people, nature and beauty.

My power as a woman lies in my connection to my own heart, my softness and my increasing ability to show compassion and love for others.

How do you embody being a sovereign feminine Goddess?

I embody being a sovereign Goddess by listening to the still small voice within that urges me to follow my heart. I do not bow down to societal conventions and have proven that I am willing to risk all in order to take my unique place in the world.

What are your favorite Sacred Feminine Rituals?

My favorite sacred feminine rituals include:

(1) A walk in the forest with a female friend

(2) Taking a bath by candle light

(3) Giving and/or receiving an aromatherapy massage.

(4) Joining women in a Goddess circle especially at the time of equinox or solstice.

What was your inspiration for “Love & The Goddess?”

My inspiration came form the Triple Goddess myth of maiden, mother and crone; archetypes common to all women. I wished to write a book for the goddess in everywoman.
