Strut Your Stuff with Healthy Intentions for 2017

Happy New Year Beauties!

This is the time of year when coaches and personal development bloggers share loads of tips and ideas about how to strut your stuff and live your best life in the new year.

With the new year comes a clean slate. A blank page. The chance to begin again.

If you’re ready to improve the quality of your life, chances are you will set your resolutions and begin to make changes in January. For many, the comfortable pull of ‘the way things have always been’ will start to sabotage your best intention and can often overpower newly minted resolutions before they have a chance to germinate. Feeling defeated, we often give up on our resolutions to transform our lives.

I choose to live in a resolution free zone.

I prefer to transform and improve my life with incremental steps toward profound change. Reflecting on my successes and shortfalls in 2016 helped define my personal intentions for the new year. While I have lofty intentions and enormous dreams, I expect setbacks. I believe you can correct your course of action and begin again at any time.

Taking a step backward does not mean you’ve failed.

If you are ready to make some changes, check in with how you feel about the following areas of your life to determine which area needs the most attention.

  • Self-Care
  • Relationships
  • Health
  • Career
  • Finances
  • Spirituality

When I look at each area of my life I see that improving my health and well-being is most important. And while I improved my nutrition in 2016 with whole foods, super foods and healthy tonics, I let my physical activity falter AGAIN. This is not a new experience. I’ve played tug of war prioritizing regular exercise for years.  A large to-do list, self-sabotage and getting away from moving my body each day lead me here. Can you relate?

Here’s what I know.  When I regularly move my body, I am a much happier and healthier version of myself.  I know how great I feel after practicing yoga, dancing, taking a brisk walk or going a few rounds with my heavy bag. I intend to move my ass a lot more in 2017. To stay active, I will walk, practice yoga and dance.

When I inevitably fall off the wagon, I will pick myself up, dust myself off and begin again.

Awareness + Action + Beginning Again = Successful Transformation 

  • Identify what you wish to change
  • Honor where you are you right now
  • Identify where you want to go from here
  • Create a new daily practice to get you from where you are to where you want to be

This year I plan to RECEIVE what my body, mind and soul need to function with more clarity and creativity.  I intend to move my body in some way every day and be mindful of my tendency to work too much.

Honor where you are now. I think this is a step many people skip. When you acknowledge all you do have available to you (traits, strengths, talents, skills, and resources) it becomes evident that you are actually doing more than okay. Thanks for good reminders Shannon.

Thank You. I like how beautifullly You are wordying Your profound thoughts, this is so elegant and simple at the same time.

This year I’m trying to put all my areas under one umbrella. A lot of work has to be done with Joy and Excitement, of course. 🙂
