Hi Bryna, Welcome to This Sacred Life.
Please share a life-altering transformation you’ve recently experienced and how it has transformed your life.

My life-altering transformation was from lingering victim energy to true creatorship.

I’ve been a student of metaphysics, philosophy, yoga, Buddhism, magick, and manifestation since I was in my late teens. Since then, I’ve been blessed to work with amazing teachers of conscious creation, spiritual growth, and personal development, as well as yoga, meditation, and energy healing. Every time a new modality came into my awareness, I learned something mind-blowing about the Universe, myself, and our relationship to one another.

But despite my access to this wealth of information, and all of my attempts at positive thinking, affirmations, creative visualization, and manifestation, I couldn’t seem to get over the hump in my life. My big dreams always seemed one (or ten) steps away from where I was. I knew I was moving forward, but it was happening so slowly that I was getting frustrated. I constantly felt like I was taking wrong turns, running down dead-end paths, only to have to go back and start over.

That is until I realized what it actually means to “feel as if.”

You’ve heard that before, right? “You need to feel as if you already have your dream.” It sounds so simple. And yet, I couldn’t do it. I wanted to, but my imagination simply wasn’t up to the job. I knew I wanted more from my life than what I was creating. I’d built an amazing, successful business helping people write transformational books, but although I loved my work and my clients, I knew that something was calling me to expand. I had dreams of speaking on a stage, of sharing a transformational message with people across the world. When I stepped out of the daily routines and actually reflected on where I was and how I was feeling, my business felt like a too-tight shirt, constricting me. I couldn’t breathe in it the way I wanted to. And yet, I couldn’t seem to create beyond where I was.

I wondered if I was broken – if I simply wasn’t as powerful as everyone I looked up to. Shouldn’t I just be happy with this great life I’d created, and let those bigger dreams go? Who was I to think I was being called to something bigger and better?

It was a recipe for frustration and despondency.

It all came to a head when I was in Ireland with my family. My husband Matthew and I, along with our daughters, were renting a house in Co. Kerry with the intention to relax, explore, and get away from the daily routine of life for a while. I thought, “This will be great! I’ll finally figure out what I’m meant to be doing!”

But three weeks in, I still had no new ideas. Maybe, I thought, I didn’t have a purpose the way some people did. Maybe I just wasn’t meant to live the kind of life I envisioned. Maybe I should just be happy where I was.

I called my good friend in London and told her what was happening. Turns out, she was going through something remarkably similar. “This whole ‘purpose’ thing is so heavy,” she said. “Why do I have to have a purpose? Can’t I just be?”

“Yeah!” I chimed in. “Screw purpose! Who cares about purpose! I just want to have fun and be happy!”

“What if we just figured out what makes us happy?” my friend asked.

“Even if it’s pointless? Even if it serves no other purpose?”

It was like a sun exploded in my mind. I had been so obsessed with trying to create what I wanted that I had never thought about what would actually feel good.

You can’t solve a problem from the same level of thinking that created it. I had trying to create a vision of empowerment when the person I was being, was mired in victimhood and stuckness. No wonder it hadn’t been working.

When we got home from Ireland, I dove in. What did I actually want? What feelings did I actually want to feel in my life every day? What experiences did I want to create? And how could I take action to give myself that experience of “feeling as if” that I knew was necessary for the process of consciously creating?

And (to get back to the gist of my conversation with my friend), how could I make that action feel good?

See, I knew I wanted to create something BIG. I knew I had to start showing up differently in my life. I couldn’t solve my problems with the same levels of thinking that created them. But the idea of being someone different in my own life was uncomfortable, even scary.

Not long after I started down this path, I was listening to Mel Robbins talk about the confidence/competency loop. In order to feel confidence (in anything,) you must first develop competence. They are two halves of a feedback loop that constantly reinforces itself.

Basically, nothing is going to feel good, or natural, or even possible until you actually give yourself the experience of doing it. Another lightbulb moment! Of course, I wasn’t good at feeling “as if.” I didn’t know how “as if” felt!

It was as though I was trying to describe the taste of cake when I’d only ever eaten bread.

In order to make my dream life a reality, and feel the way I wanted to feel in that dream life every day, I needed to give myself the experience of being that version of myself right now. Then, I needed to reinforce that feeling so my mind could learn new habits and ways of thinking about who I am and what I’m capable of.

That’s when I was given the formula for conscious evolution—the formula I’m going to share with you in my video series and my ongoing work with the Choose Your Evolution project.

How do you relate to your body, sexuality, and power?

My body is my vehicle in this world. It’s not who I am, but I’m integrated with it from now until the end of this life. The more I work with breath and energy movement within my body, the more empowered I feel and the greater my access to my intuition.

What are your favorite sacred feminine rituals?

Yoga, yoga, yoga! Meditation, breathwork, and more yoga. I’ve been a writer for a living for a long time, so extensive journaling feels like work to me, and tends to spin me in circles (I can write my way into and out of anything!), but I do like to set daily intentions and take notes on what guidance I received during meditation.

How else do you embody being a sovereign woman?

I make my work bigger than my fear.
I make my love bigger than my apathy.
I make my desires bigger than my shoulds.
I make my big dreams more important than my momentary pleasures.
I make my service to myself equal to my service to others.
I make who I am more powerful than who I’m being.

What comes up for you when you hear the words walk in beauty and feminine sovereignty?

Ease, flow, navigating the currents of change with grace. Being beautiful by being firmly in your power, not pretending to be someone else or conforming to someone else’s standards.

What was your inspiration for Choose Your Evolution?

Choose Your Evolution was born out of a HUGE download. (In fact, I tell people it was given to me; I didn’t create it!) I adapted it to the idea of evolution because Aine (my daughter) was watching a ton of nature shows. While hearing David Attenborough’s voice in my head, I started thinking about the fact that we are always changing, that nothing about us is static. And the rest just hit me in one big cosmic chunk!

With all the transformation and the “change of scenery” I am currently experiencing, this was exactly what I needed to fuel myself. I remember the day I stated – no, exclaimed – “Screw my purpose! I simply want to have fun and be happy!” It was a pivital moment that lead me straight into today’s “change of scenery” experience.

Shann, thanks for sharing these pearls of wisdom and Brayna’s experiences. This is a podcast I will be listening to again and again.
