This Sacred Life is a soulful, sensual and sacred exploration for women who want to walk in beauty and reclaim their feminine sovereignty. Hosted by Shann Vander Leek, Transformation Goddess, producer, best-selling author, voice over talent, podcast coach.

Show Notes:

This month I’m honoring my inner teenager and the woman she helped me become. I’m the same age as my daughter in the picture below. (Inspired by a visit to my high school & old stomping grounds.) The visit stirred up lots of memories (happy and challenging) and experiences ready to be witnessed and released.

For many years, I could only the negative, shadow aspects of my journey as a teen. I carried buckets full of shame for far too long. Now I practice seeing both sides of the young woman I once was, instead of only the parts where I fell from grace. I give thanks for how resilient my inner teenager was and how far I’ve come on this imperfect journey.

I invite you to create a beautiful altar honoring your inner teenager. All you need to do is find a picture of yourself as a teen and surround her with some sacred items on a special shelf, counter, desk, or mantle. Each time you pass by, give her some extra love and attention. Let her know that you see her and accept ALL of her just as she is/was.

A sweet idea in theory but what if you are not at all happy with where you are NOW or the way your life has turned out? True, the choices we made as young women (or men) are the stepping stones that brought us to the place we are now. For better or worse, the successes, the failures, the celebrations, the humiliations…all of it. I can forgive that young woman for making many of the choices that have led me to make some pretty unhappy decisions, yes. A stretch to thank that young girl for those choices that have built up a cluster of negative emotions and defense mechanisms that are now holding me back in a variety of ways. Yes, I need to work on them but I’m just pointing out that for some (if not many) of us it’s not going to be so easy to express gratitude and thankfulness about some of those things. Forgiveness, yes, compassion and understanding, yes. Just sharing from my perspective.

      Hi Kim,
Thanks for your feedback. I understand your point.
The gratitude part came up for me because I spent a LONG ASS TIME only seeing the negative, shadow aspects of my journey as a teen. I carried buckets full of shame for far too long. Now I practice seeing both sides of the young woman I once was, instead of only the parts where I fell from grace. I practice remembering that for a number of reasons, I grew up far too fast and did the best I could with the information and the circumstances I faced at the time. I give thanks for how resilient my inner teenager was and how far I’ve come on this imperfect journey.
      Sending you lots of love,
      – Shann
